Syros bound
A friend of one, the Wordle beater, sent me this nice link about some art on display on Serifos. I can’t get there of course and when I do it will be closed. One thing I am sure about and I have not had to deal with the really hot weather here yet, is I don’t think I will want to be here next July and August. I hope next year, I can try and go to the UK, by then our house might be rented, so I will have to have a plan if I don’t end up with back to back dog sits, like this year was going to be.
This book is not my normal reading material but my friend from Serifos lent it to me and it’s meant to be the best translation ever done. I have read the introduction and will see how I get on. It’s very topical of course! Last night we had a nice home cooked meal, after my friends got the final bit of my trip sorted out. I have checked in both my outward and return tickets so I am good to go. We had a bit of a late lunch then they took me to the ferry port. It’s definitely a lot windier today, which is good, as I hope if the air conditioning is not working in the ward, the open windows will let in some of that wind and freshen things up a bit. Trouble is it lets in the noise from the nearby busy street.
There are two churches in todays post, both Agioi Apostoloi. The first is not far from the Monastry, but it’s not the one next to it, that I went to a Panagyri by accident when I started a walk from there. It seems it’s a bit deserted now, despite being repaired in 1977. The second church is in a beach called Platy Gialo, which was built in 1963. It was built on the site of previous churches and there is evidence one may have been pre Christian. It turns out the locals were not impressed that a bit of history was destroyed by the erection of the new church and a poem was written.
The Wanderer by Theodores Chrysoloura.
We had our four ferry arrival at the same time again and as usual the Artemis had to wait until last before coming in. It’s was on its outward journey, on the way back is when I hopped onto it.
We managed to park Mike’s car right by where the ferry berths and I got my wheelchair stair lift as before. The route took us first to Serifos, Paros then Syros. The journey got quite choppy in the open sea and unfortunately a few people were sick. The Artermis staff are really good with me, they saw me like this when I left Syros with the cage on and it’s just those little touches that show they care. We arrived in Syros a little late, but my ambulance was there to greet me, the driver I recognised from last time.
