Lights out!

While having breakfast yesterday the lady who has the plasters on her arms came around. She had a hair dryer in her hands. She asked me how I was, we did manage to converse quite well in Greek. Anyway she has been called in to look at the oven in the house, as we tried to use it to cook baked potatoes and every time we turned it on, it took the power out. On this humid island  ovens can do this if they are used for cooking and maybe the door is closed afterwards and not left open so the moisture from say baked potatoes is not allowed to escape. After a session with the hairdryer all is now well. She also answered a question I had about Greek, because people have been correcting me and I did not understand why. Thelo means I want, you want is thelete. There are other versions, for he/she wants and we want. But there are lots of other words that have a similar ending, if you see what I mean. Anyway I asked the lady armed with the hairdryer about this, and the words I know relating to “you”, are the formal way,  the ones I have been told to use in this  case theleis is the so called informal way. So that’s all cleared up then.

Todays church name is Agioi Anargroi, again there are two, I am not sure as the map is not very clear if I have seen, them, I need my walking map, that is in a suitcase on Serifos. As with many of the Panigyri church celebrations, it is held in the summer when I am not there. One of them looks like it has a lovely dry stone wall made with the green black stones of the district. This church, seems to celebrate three times a year, so maybe I can go in November. I can see this church clearly on the map, it’s near Mega Livadi

The owner of the Beagle was having a snack and it looked like banana on bread with maybe peanut butter. The Beagle was going crazy, he loves banana! Ronnie is very different, he is a meat eater, maybe cheese some times. Anything that resembles a fruit or vegetable is usually ignored. Someone else I know on the island dropped by to say hello, he  helped in the rescue process and took Ronnie away while I was put on the stretcher. I also had a chat with the Dog Palace owner, everything is going well there, except of course it is getting hot. The first of the volunteers is doing well, there are two other people starting next week, they have been to take a look. They are friends of mine who have kindly volunteered to use their holidays up to help at the Palace. I am sure they will find it rewarding. This is the strawberry cheesecake croissant our friend brought for us.
