Small World
Last night, we went out with the friend for dinner, who I had met for coffee in the morning. We went to the Italian place which I have tried many times before. We shared a starter and a pizza, both of which were very good. My friend chatted to a pair of Dutch guys who were at a nearby table. Not long after a Swedish couple that we know, joined us, which was lovely too. It’s interesting how these so called Ex Pat groups develop over the years, new people come in, older ones leaves when they can’t get to the island or pass away. News is shared by word of mouth, Facebook and WhatsApp groups and so on. Meanwhile Ronnie enjoyed the meal also, and afterwards we took a wander to the Port for a view of it, the Moon and Venus.
In bed, I kept hearing a mosquito in the bedroom, which kept me awake, but I found it in the morning. All the windows have fly screens to help keep these bugs out.. The next day ( today ) we had an early start, and did what is called the loop walk. I think there are a couple of versions of it, mine keeps us off the road to Apollonia on the return leg. It goes around land that is behind the beach which is a flat area that ends up by an old dried up river bed. Some agriculture is undertaken here, but water as usual is the problem. I saw a corn crop in the fields at Christmas time, it’s now ripe and ready for harvesting. But there were signs of grapes, courgettes and tomatoes as well as the odd goat or two. When we got back to Kamares we went for a coffee and I had a bugatsa shared with Ronnie of course. We then walked back to the house.
Later on I met the friend we had dinner with and drove them to Apollonia. They had some heavy shopping to do, I would rather help them, than see them try and carry it on a scooter. In the supermarket, I saw the lady from the Serifos Post Office, I know she has come to Sifnos to help out before, which means our office has to close! We went in to the Pet Shop and I got Ronnie some half decent chews, as he is nearly running out. Finally we had a coffee in an old coffee shop, not dissimilar to Marinos in Hora, and then drove back to Kamares. Later on its dinner at home, making a Spanish Omelette with some of the courgettes and a few other bits. Here is Ronnie enjoying a cuddle later on..
