The wind returns…

Monday 20st - Tuesday 21st,  Hora Serifos

So while cooking my first meal in the house, the estate agent called again and asked if I could meet the owner of the property at seven thirty. Surely so I said. I was cooking kedgeree, two eggs were hard boiled, half an onion fried. I had a tin of tuna and what I thought was rice. With no scales it was a bit of an estimation job on how much to cook. I had  also bought this small jar of what was called  curry sauce to add a bit of a kick to the meal. So while checking the rice, it did not have the right texture I thought. I then realised it was a type of pasta! Anyhow I mixed it all up, added a dollop of the curry sauce, it was different, but it was quite edible! Moral of the story, find the Greek words for things you want to buy to make sure you get the groceries you want! While waiting for the owner I spotted this beautifully painted utility box

So I met the owner of the property, and the builder who did the work. I had seen photos of the inside before, so no surprises there. This is the outside

The inside is really nice, it’s all new and has not been lived in yet. There are two bedrooms and on the roof there is a BBQ and a seating area. I can see myself growing produce and flowers to brighten the outside up. The house is just up the road from the windmills and has a unrestricted view of the Horas and  the the mills. It’s well away from the hubbub of the town, but not far from the supermarkets. The negotiations about length of initial rental period and other things will be discussed with the estate agents in the next day or so. After this I then walked into the town for a drink and a think.

It was interesting to watch the dynamics of what was happening tonight. It was a lot busier than Sunday night. A lot of people were being brought up in taxis and arriving in scooters. The car park is away from the square which is good. There were clearly tourists, but also a lot of Greeks I thought. I could have had a drink with one of the swanky bars in this square or the one with the town hall, but I decided on one that had locals in it, and plonked myself down and ordered a wine. The bar lady whose name is  Constandia ( which means stable and secure) was very friendly and we had a chat when time allowed. She loves Serifos. Afterwards I walked back home and managed to do so, without having to retrace my steps. Walking through the town in the dark is probably not too safe, as it’s very dark. ( I don’t expect to be mugged here!)  Luckily they paint the edges of the steps white so you can see them, but it’s still a bit risky  the road is probably safer, even if the medical centre is just down the road!

It was a bit hot in the attic bedroom and I ended up sleeping on the sofa  bed downstairs. This morning the wind is back, there is a electric pole near the house and the cables are being blown around in the wind alarmingly!
