Grr

Last night an unexpected change of plans. I was already to go out to the swanky taverna, but when I got the lead out, there was no reaction from Ronnie. Normally when he sees it, he bounds around, ready for a walk. All my persuasion came to nothing. So I had some things to make a spaghetti carbonara and Ronnie had a taste too. I think he was a bit out of sorts, as he did not really settle and was wandering around at night, wanting to be petted and so on. Eventually we got to sleep. But at three am, there was a soft “grr” noise and I could see Ronnie’s silhouette and I knew what he wanted  and I was ready for this. He wants a chew. These treats started at seven am, and he has gradually brought the time of requesting them forward bit by bit. He wandered off happy with the chew in his mouth and then came back later on.

I measured the distance from my new house to the nearest beach on Serifos and compared it to how far it is to the beach here. It’s just over half a mile for both, not bad. Both are uphill on the way back, a chance to dry off some what. On the subject of swimming, because Ronnie can’t go in the sea here, I drove him to Chrisopigi where there is a beach which we walked across the other day. It’s nice and shallow too. We had a wander on the beach and he went in and had a good swim, me hanging onto his lead, up to the top of my legs in the sea. After this we then walked up to the monastery, saw his dog friend Cookie, then walked the other side of the monastery where there is a little beach. Here there was two tall towers of stones, one tower with the stones painted. Unfortunately the painted tower of stones was near a topless lady sunbathing, so I could not take a photo of them easily!

The path ended after the beach, which was a pity so we walked back to the car. We went along the road to a sign saying White Tower, started walking to it, which went past a house, but were told it’s private land! I had a chat with the owner and she said there was a path, but no more and the sign should have been taken down. From the distance it looked like the White Tower on Serifos. We were close to Platys Gialos but that beach is closed for us too. We visited a small monastery of Virgin Mary of the Mountain nearby.

I then decided to go to Apollonia, and have a coffee. We parked in the big car park and had a wander around. A lot of places were closed. There were loads of caper bushes growing in the walls and flowering. We found a cafe open and I ordered my cold coffee in Greek and a sausage roll. We had both , sharing of course in the little grass area by the cafe. After this we drove back and I parked by the house. We should be going to dinner at the Italian tonight, if I don’t get stood up again!
