Easy day in Hora and Livadi

Saturday 25th June Hora and Livadi

I was hoping the the cream I have dolloped on my sunburns would have helped overnight but I fear not. It has a nice chill effect when applied, but my legs and tummy are pink and getting up, or picking something off the floor is very painful. I don’t have heatstroke, I am not shivering or any of the other symptoms for it. I have decided to walk to the medical centre at some point to verify the opening times as per google. I don’t think it’s open Saturday or Sunday. I forgot the pharmacies can prescribe things that only our doctors can in the UK, like steroid cream which is the next thing they try I believe.

But I felt like I should get out, and with no breeze I took the bus down you Livadi. I had a different pie in my cafe today, this one had feta, olives and tomatoes, it made a nice change. Livadi has a horseshoe beach and port area, the port is at one end of the horseshoe.

I have never walked to the other end. Despite the fact it’s a weekend it does not feel super busy, the slower Zante ferry was in, the slower ferries take longer to turn around, the lorries tend to use these as they are cheaper, who cares if your bananas or beer takes four hours instead of two to arrive? The Zante ferry is just pulling away now.

As you walk around the shoe, the tavernas end first, then the studios and apartments. There is loads of beach for everyone, the sea is  shallow and the beach is sandy. But it’s not very wide but it doesn’t matter. There doesn’t seem to be lots of other nationalities about, it seems to be mostly Greeks. I love the double ended traditional Greek boats, most of the fishing boats around here are small.

Eventually I got to the end of the shoe and I hopped onto a little pier and took a photo of Livadi which seems miles away with the wide angle lens on the phone camera.  I then walked back to the bus stop, bought and ice cream and caught the bus home.

While out of action I have been reading up on the island and it’s clear that there many other things that I haven’t seen yet, there are one hundred and sixty churches and some religious festivals that I can look forward to experiencing  as time goes on. I have also been reading up on the history side of things are there is a lot more to learn. As I don’t plan to go anywhere much tomorrow I will write up a summary of the islands history in tomorrows blog entry. What is interesting is how different each island is, even when they are very close to each other.

Footnote. The good news is the family of the dog who attacked Ronnie last night, have made contact, and apologised for leaving the gate open, and have paid the vets bill. So that’s hopefully a good ending to the incident.
