More ramblings in Ermoupoli

So after a good nights sleep, I woke to a much better day. Last night I wandered back to the main town and enjoyed just looking at houses, shops and businesses. The roads and pavements in this area are paved with a marble like stone, quite remarkable, but I do remember a nearby island has been the source of the stuff. Sadly there are several beautiful buildings, not used and derelict. There is one I intend to snap today, in the Italian style, reknown on this island. I eventually settled on an outside seat in a restaurant looking out to the port.

After ordering and enjoying a beer, the heavens opened. I decamped to a table under cover and ate my dinner looking out onto the mayhem caused by this downpour. Luckily it stopped by the time I had to go and I splashed home in my walking boots, grateful for bringing them with me.  Living in a rented apartment in Greece is a very different experience in the colder months. There is none of that sun kissed hot water we might remember from summer visits, you have to remember to turn the water on. There is no heating as such, but you can use air conditioning to warm the room, if you have it. Luckily I don’t  feel the cold too much. A kettle is unheard of usually, luckily this place has a mini pan on its own stand that boils water quickly. My apartment looks out to the old town and  has a huge long balcony that you could grow loads of produce on.

There is a washing machine and a couple of washing lines to hang your washing on. As my towels are now quite damp, I decide to take a risk and hang them out while I explore the town…The internet is fairly fast, BBC Sounds works well, but of course we are two hours ahead. Most of what I want to listen to will be available after broadcast. Time to go and explore.
