Goodbye to Tinos
So on my last day on Tinos, I went to the South Western tip as I had not visited there before. It is quite nice, but deserted.
I then went to the village of Volax, the area around here is peppered with big boulders, they can’t be moved, so they built around them. It seemed a bit less deserted than other villages, but strangely enough empty houses had writing on the doors, windows and walls. I can’t read Greek, barely know a handful of words, so it got me wondering what was written down? A sort of Eulogy for the family who lived there?
My next village was on the coast and called Kolimbithra. It had two lovely beaches, two freshwater lakes. But surprisingly there was hardly any buildings for tourists, what was there looked a bit worse for wear. I walked along the beach, it was blowing a gale and lightly snowing as it had been all morning. There were loads of small jellyfish on the beach. Which reminds me I went back to the same taverna last night and had cuttlefish with small pasta tubes. In this area which is a valley, it looked like they were growing things, I saw what I thought were globe artichokes.
My last place was another beach resort, but this time it had lots of rooms and tavernas. It was called Apigania and there were some grape vines growing near the beach. You could see Syros very clearly. I then drove down to Tinos town and checked my car back in. While this was happening, I rummaged in my suitcase for my Syros apartment key. In doing so I must have disturbed the instant coffee tin, the lid came off, instant coffee everywhere! They only charged me for one days car hire, even though it was nearly for two days. Just like Sifnos last time. As I walked to the ferry terminal I saw what I thought was my ferry. It had the same colour scheme and I could read the word star! No matter, it was a Golden Star ferry, not mine at all which is Blue Star. Using my newly installed Marine Traffic app, I could then see my ferry heading over towards us. It even arrived early!
So tomorrow is going to be a long day, my ferry leaves at nine thirty in the evening and it’s an over two hours crossing to Naxos. So tomorrow will be a rest day from the blog, the next one should appear Monday after my first day on Naxos.
