Blowing the cobwebs away
So after a lovely warm day yesterday, the strong cold wind is back. There is a promontory to the North of Paros and I fancied a walk around it. It has a lighthouse and good views I hoped. Before I got there I stopped at this lovely beach and had a quick wander.
So I started my walk on a well marked path. I was on walk number one, to the lighthouse. There were some new flowers to see, some I called poached egg plants, as the looked like a cooked egg. Then there these lupins, smaller than the ones we know, but in clumps they were amazing. You can see the rock that has been carved by the wind. It was blowing a gale.
Some of the carving, was just amazing to see, fantastic shapes, holes, slots, everything you could imagine. The sea was literally boiling below me.
I then came across this church, I could not get in, but bizarrely it’s the site where the Russians had a naval base! Not far from here was a round stone platform and stone seating in a terrace form, a theatre in the round. It looked modern.
I then drove to this town by the sea called Naousa. It’s actually quite a big town. It was very windy there. There were some houses I saw right by the sea, given it was rough, I thought they might get flooded. There was a Venetian castle there, or what was left of it. Given I was half was around the island, I decided to drive the rest of the way round by way of the coastline. I saw Anti Paros, I went through several villages, I would say these and the two big towns don’t have the same old world feeling you get in Naxos, it’s not bad, it’s just different! Tomorrow I will go round more of the island before handing the car back.
