Celebrity spotting
Last night we went back to Vathi, with a friend, to have dinner at the Taverna we went to before. My friend knew the place very well, and the chef recognised her. We had a very entertaining evening, we got talking to a couple of girls at the next table and I think we got back to the house at midnight. Unfortunately Ronnie was overwhelmed by the number of cats around and kept trying to reach them, when on the lead. At one point, he pulled me and my chair over, so we both ended up lying in the sand. No harm done, but a touch embarrassing! My friend told us that Tom Hanks who has a place on Anti Paros, was at a Taverna in Kamares the other night, to celebrate his birthday and had Barack Obama with him. He goes there every year for his birthday apparently. We are going there tonight. ( our decision was not swayed by this news)
Despite putting on the insect repellent, they are biting me on my ankles, I will have to concentrate the stuff there in the future. In the morning, I had a call with one of my ex work colleagues in Singapore. We do these calls every so often, it was good to catch up with his news and his new role at the company he works at.
I decided as it was a bit later than our usual, to walk to the church on the other side of the bay, called Katherina. It’s seen when you approach Kamares on the ferry and there is a nice walk to it. Dogs are not allowed on the beach at Kamares, it’s a so called blue flag beach, as is another beach on the island. I sort of understand why, but if owners were responsible in clearing up any mess, dogs could be allowed on it. It means I can’t take Ronnie for a nice dip with me, there is a little cove of a beach near the house, that we could go to. Avoiding the beach, we went along the road, where we could hear frogs croaking in the mass of canes growing there.
Before you reach the path to the church we were heading to, you pass the church which is up steep steps called Marina. There are at least two other churches on this route, to confirm Sifnos’s heady church count. When we got to the church, We went to a shaded area to cool off.
After a break, we walked back, but we stopped off and went down steps that led to the sea. Ronnie could have jumped in here and I could have left him have a little swim, but he was more interested in clambering over the rocks, goat style.
At the cafe, I ordered a spanakopita and a coffee, sharing the former with Ronnie of course. Who would show up, but the two girls from last night, and we had another nice chat, before we left them. They are on the ferry later on. I bought a vanilla ice cream and we ate it on the way back to the house.
